Belfast Crown Court was told by the prosecution that 45-year-old Robert Boyd from Broadlands, Carrickfergus had held up the shop, Orchid, while disguised in a wig, hat and sunglasses. He allegedly made off with bras, knickers, stockings and suspender belts.
However, Boyd’s defence maintain that at the time, Boyd believed that he was a elf, having been playing the cyberpunk role-playing game Shadowrun.
More specifically, he believed that he was a female shaman (meaning a natural magic user) elf named Beho, and that he thought he was armed with a samurai sword. Boyd admits that he may have ‘blurred reality and fantasy’.’
‘As authorities stormed into a middle school office to arrest an alleged meth-dealing principal inside, they found an even more surprising scene inside. Sources said 50-year-old John Acerra, of Allentown, was naked and watching gay pornography when they arrived at Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem to arrest him on Tuesday.
Acerra also had sex toys, drugs, cash and a pipe in his school office when authorities stormed his office, the sources added.
He remained jailed on $200,000 bail Thursday night, police said.’

‘A US federal appeals court on Friday upheld a refusal to hear the case of a Lebanese-born German man who says he was tortured by the
CIA, citing national security reasons.
Khaled el-Masri claims was detained by the CIA for several months in 2004 on suspicion of links to terrorism.
Masri, 43, filed suit in December 2005 saying he had been snatched while on a trip in Macedonia, taken to Afghanistan, jailed, beaten and harassed before being set free without charge after five months. [..]
The US government had urged the court to reject the appeal saying that for national security reasons it could not confirm or deny any of the allegations because they were related to the activities of the CIA.’
‘Two middle school boys facing sex abuse charges in connection with “spanking” incidents at Patton Middle School in McMinnville are back home with their parents after appearing in court on Tuesday.
The two boys, ages 12 and 13, face the equivalent of felony sex abuse charges. In court, Yamhill County authorities said their investigation showed the boys slapped female classmates on their buttocks numerous times over the past several weeks, and poked their breasts.
According to authorities, the boys were sometimes acting out a character known as ‘Party Boy’ from a movie based on a popular MTV television series.
Two of the victims testified in court they did not feel threatened and did not want the boys punished.’
‘Witnesses to a road crash on a Dutch motorway soon realised why the occupants of a van fled so quickly when police arrived and found hashish worth €15 million ($25.26 million) in it.
A police spokeswoman said the van contained 3000 kg of hashish and was heavily overloaded, although police did not know whether this had caused the crash.
“A van-driver heading to Amsterdam lost control of his vehicle and it tipped over … Witnesses were confused as to why two people got out and ran away even though no one was hurt in the accident,” she added.’

‘A deviant Melbourne airline baggage courier who stole pubic and head hair from underwear and brushes in women’s luggage was jailed today for at least two years.
Rodney Lyle Petersen, 30, of Wallan, pleaded guilty to 50 counts of theft of women’s hair.
The Victorian County Court was told Petersen would pull over in his courier van and rummage through lost or delayed luggage he was returning to Qantas passengers.
He collected the pubic and head hair from brushes and underwear in the baggage and put it in plastic slips then recorded the owners’ personal details in an exercise book.’
‘Paris Hilton could have her probation revoked – possibly resulting in jail time – if she is found to have been driving with a suspended license because it would violate conditions of her previous sentence for reckless driving, authorities said Wednesday. [..]
“Our office is waiting to obtain a copy of the citation,” said Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office. “Once we’re able to verify that Miss Hilton was driving the vehicle, we will request that the court revoke her probation and set a probation violation hearing.”

State Rep. Michael DeBose, D-Cleveland, and state Sen. Kevin Coughlin, R-Cuyahoga Falls, introduced bills that would require green plates for habitual and child-oriented sex offenders.
“A distinctive license plate would warn parents and children of the potential threat posed by sexual offenders,” Coughlin said.’

‘After 13-year-old runaway Brenda Nguyen drank a fifth of vodka in less than half an hour, she spent four hours throwing up and slipping in and out of consciousness, authorities said.
Four adults and her best friend were in a Phoenix apartment with her. She drank that much at the urging of one of the adults so he could have sex with her, Phoenix Police Department detectives said. Another prayed over Brenda as her life slipped away. Someone even revived her with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
But nobody called for help, police said. Instead, thinking she would be OK, they took a nap.
When they awoke and found the eighth-grader dead, they loaded her 97-pound body into a car and dumped it in a Phoenix alley, authorities said.’

‘U.S. agents smashed a Mexican drug trafficking network by arresting more than 400 people and seizing over 18 tonnes of narcotics, authorities said on Wednesday.
U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said the 20-month operation dismantled the Victor Emilio Cazares-Gastellum network, which smuggled cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana from Mexico and distributed it across the United States.
Police nabbed 66 people in coordinated raids across four states, bringing the total number of arrests to more than 400, he told a news conference in San Diego, California.’
‘An Australian state has banned the video Web site YouTube from government schools in a crackdown on cyber-bullying, a minister said Thursday.
Victoria, Australia’s second most populous state, banned the popular video-sharing site from its 1,600 government schools after a gang of male school students videotaped their assault on a 17-year-old girl on the outskirts of Melbourne.
The assault, which is being investigated by police, was uploaded on YouTube late last year.’
‘A Brevard County teacher was placed on leave while Cocoa police investigate allegations she duct-taped a kindergarten student to a desk as punishment.
“My teacher duct-taped me to that table,” 5-year-old Dylan Negron said.
Dylan told his mother that his teacher, Mrs. Maki Monje, at Cambridge Elementary was punishing him because he wouldn’t put his head down on the desk on Friday. His mother, Donna Negron, said she immediately reported the incident to the school and police.
“I’m very hurt,” she said, “Thinking that I was sending him to school and he’d be safe at school and I didn’t expect nothing like that to happen.”‘

Officers got a call after a man was out walking in Forestville on Quebec’s North Shore and noticed the baggage on a local beach.
Police seized 63 kilograms of marijuana with an estimated value of $600,000 on Monday as the drugs were being loaded onto a helicopter by a man.’

Gwinnett police have arrested a 24-year-old Lawrenceville man after he asked for change for $100 at a fast-food drive-through last week and the clerk noticed an assault rifle in his lap.
He was slurring his words as he asked for change at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at a McDonald’s on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, police said in a news release Monday. When the driver noticed that the clerk had seen the gun, the driver claimed he was a police officer. He either passed out or fell asleep at the wheel.
Store clerks called police and said the man appeared to have been drinking. The driver awoke a moment later, got upset because he didn’t get his change and left.’
‘Frisco police said a 60-year-old woman turned the tables on a 19-year-old carjacker and shot him with his own gun, NBC 5 reported. [..]
The woman said an armed man approached her in the parking lot, demanded her car and fired a warning shot into the air. Police said as the woman struggled with the suspect for control of the weapon, the gun fired and struck the man in the stomach.
“During that scuffle, she ended up with the gun and the suspect was shot once in the stomach. He was able to get up, get his gun back from the victim and he took off running,” said Sgt. Gina McFarlin of the Frisco Police Department.’
‘A man charged with robbing a bank, for the second time since 2005, tried to show police the loot, but discovered he had been robbed, Fayetteville police said.
Joseph Thomas Mulkerin, 46, was arrested at a Bragg Boulevard motel Tuesday and charged with common law robbery of $2,179 from the Wachovia branch on Green Street, said police spokeswoman Jamie Smith.
He had been released from prison Jan. 11 after serving a sentence for the 2005 robbery of the same bank, in which he pleaded guilty to taking $1,098.
Mulkerin went to his motel room to show officers the money, but discovered some missing. Police later charged motel maintenance man David Mims, 49, with breaking into the room and taking some of the cash, Smith said.’
‘A middle school principal accused of selling crystal methamphetamine from his office after school and on weekends was arrested after police found the drug on his desk, authorities said Wednesday.
There was no indication that John Acerra sold the drug to students at Nitschmann Middle School, where he was arrested Tuesday, said Dennis Mihalopoulos, an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Police said they began investigating Acerra in early February after an informant told them the principal was using and distributing the drug.’
