`George Michael was arrested in London on drug charges after being found slumped at the wheel of his car, a British tabloid newspaper reported.

A passer-by contacted police after spotting the 42-year-old pop star in his car in central London on Saturday night, the Sun newspaper reported in Monday’s editions.

Michael was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs before being bailed out to return to a police station next month, The Sun said. The report said he was checked by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment.’

‘A US soldier who raped a Nigerian woman in Italy has been given a lighter sentence because the court deemed his tour of duty in Iraq made him less sensitive to the suffering of others.

According to an Italian court document, James Michael Brown, a 27-year-old paratrooper from Oregon stationed in northern Italy, was sentenced to five years and eight months for rape in February 2004.

Brown beat and handcuffed the woman, a Nigerian resident in the town of Vicenza. He raped her vaginally and anally and left her to wander the streets naked in search of help.’

`A team of thieves that broke into an abandoned missile silo not far from the Russian city of Kostroma in search of nonferrous metals was shocked to find the shaft packed with Soviet money bills, Regnum news agency reported on Tuesday.

The incident would have remained secret, had the wind not blown hundreds of banknotes all over the countryside.’

‘A court commissioner has signed off on an unusual restraining order against celebutante Paris Hilton, ordering her to stay at least 100 yards away from an event producer who claimed she threatened him — unless they’re at a party together.

Brian Quintana was granted the three-year restraining order against Hilton last month after he testified that the celebutante harassed and threatened him after their friendship soured.’

`A British man on trial for murdering four people tried to bite himself to death as a fitting end to his killing spree, an Old Bailey jury was told.

A consultant psychiatrist said Daniel Gonzalez tried to repeatedly bite through arteries in his arms while at Broadmoor high security hospital in an attempt to commit suicide because he believed he had not done enough after killing four victims.

“I have never seen anyone bite themselves with the ferocity that he did,” Edward Petch said.’

`A group of boys who posed as a 15-year-old girl for an Internet prank ended up helping police arrest a 48-year-old man who tried to meet the fictitious teenager for sex, authorities said.

The five boys had created a fake profile of a girl on MySpace.com — a social networking Web site — to cheer up a friend who had recently broken up with his girlfriend.

But soon, a man began sending messages to the “girl” and their conversations began to have sexual overtones, said Fontana police Sgt. William Megenney.’

`Leroy Donald Johnson was caught this weekend in a barn with his pants down, literally, according to a sheriff’s office report.

But the Mesa Fire Department deputy fire chief changed his story when a sheriff’s deputy arrived on his doorstep minutes later, denying anything happened.’

`A man who claimed a chainsaw gang chopped off his legs did it himself, police said yesterday.

The unnamed van driver told them he was dragged from his vehicle by attackers who hacked at his legs with the saw before torching his Transit.

But police revealed they now believe he turned the saw on himself.’

`The Orange County Sheriff’s Office just announced that it has arrested the woman who claimed she was raped by several men who work at Walt Disney World. They say the woman made up the story, and that the sex was consensual. [..]

On Feb. 26, police responded to a report of an alleged sexual battery involving multiple suspects.

Sunde told investigators that she was approached by five or six “French men” in her apartment complex at approximately 4 a.m., and said the men physically carried her to the Gables Commons Apartments, where she was held down and sexually battered by at least four men.’

`A man who broke into a high school, stole a schoolgirl’s swimsuit and then defecated in it as he pranced around wearing the garment has been arrested, police said.

Yasuhisa Matsushita, 25, a temporary employment agency worker from Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, was arrested for trespassing and willful destruction of property.

Matsushita admits to the allegations.

“I did it because it felt so good,” Matsushita told the police.’

`Chief Joseph Moran says he was driving a car with police lights when he pulled over to help a woman who flagged him down.

She apparently didn’t notice the lights or the police radio when she climbed into the car. Moran says the woman told him she was cold and offered to have sex with him for $20.

A second officer arrested the 25-year-old woman, who said she had been using crack cocaine and could not remember when she last slept or ate.’

`Juliet Hulme, of Hulme-Parker murder notoriety, has spoken out about the killing, saying she and Parker were never lesbians.

Hume – who became British writer Anne Perry – and Pauline Parker murdered Pauline’s mother in Christchurch in 1954 by bludgeoning her with a brick.

`A stunning investigation of bribery and corruption in Congress has spread to the CIA, ABC News has learned.

The CIA Inspector General has opened an investigation into the spy agency’s executive director, Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, and his connections to two defense contractors accused of bribing a member of Congress and Pentagon officials.

The CIA released an official statement on the matter to ABC News, saying: “It is standard practice for CIA’s Office of Inspector General — an aggressive, independent watchdog — to look into assertions that mention agency officers. That should in no way be seen as lending credibility to any allegation.’

`The lawyer for a State College man charged with the murder of a man found bludgeoned to death in his home said it could be a matter of self-defense.

The lawyer for Andrew Rogers, 28, said his client was being robbed in his own home, and a person has the right to use deadly force when that happens. [..]

Police said Rogers said he woke up to find himself on top of the victim. On Monday, he went to a police station in Uniontown, more than 100 miles away, and said there might be a body in his kitchen.’

`Four students at Center Grove High School were arrested Thursday, accused of planning to use guns to seize control of their school, possibly today.

The students are all 15-year-old boys, said Chief Deputy Doug Cox of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.

They were arrested after student tipsters reported an overheard conversation.
Sheriff Terry McLaughlin said a locker search didn’t turn up any weapons, but at least one student had access to guns and another had talked about buying one.’

`A motorist has been fined £80 for making offensive gestures towards a speed camera as he drove home from work.

Simon Thompson, 41, extended his middle finger at the mobile speed camera as he passed it whilst driving safely under the speed limit. Simon, from Colchester in Essex was astonished when half an hour later the two policemen who had been operating the camera knocked on his front door. The officers handed Simon a fixed penalty notice for £80 for making offensive gestures under the Public Order Act.’

`After a night of drinking in June 2004, Lisa Merola and her boyfriend hooked up with Michael Trammell and his wife for a “swinger’s party” in Trammell’s tiny room at a Boynton Beach motel.

Merola disappeared the following day, prosecutor Aleathea McRoberts said, after her boyfriend reported last seeing her in Trammell’s vehicle. Merola’s partially nude body — covered with Trammell’s DNA — was found in Gulfstream Park near Boynton Beach on June 13, 2004. Authorities say Trammell strangled her. A Palm Beach County jury began hearing the second-degree murder case on Thursday.

Trammell, 34, claims that the couples engaged in various sex acts for hours that night, until Merola’s boyfriend, Greg Winterbottom, wanted to leave, McRoberts said. Winterbottom said the party ended after a brief period, when Merola became visibly repulsed by the then 460-pound Trammell, according to McRoberts.’

`A Framingham man arrested in May on gun charges after police found an exact tattoo of the weapon, down to the serial number, on his hip was sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 10 charges. [..]

Breakspear originally pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on July 19, but changed his plea to guilty on all charges. He pleaded guilty to two counts of the illegal possession of a machine gun, second offense, two counts of illegal possession of a firearm without an FID card and two counts of improper storage of a large capacity firearm. At first he denied the guns were his, but the tattoo convinced police otherwise.’

`While many teenagers who use the myspace website boast about using drugs, one 16-year-old from Bensalem actually showed them.

He posted pictures on the popular website of him posing with a gun, and various drugs, while bragging he made 250,000 dollars a year by selling them. Police found the Bensalem High school student after a lengthy investigation.

“One of our detectives saw this guy and thought he seemed a little bit more real than the next kid and it was enough to launch an investigation,” said Harran.

The teenager has since been charged with possession and many of those who knew him at the high school are shocked.’

`Lawyers in South Korea have filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 230,000 victims of identity theft in an online game.

The suit will claim damages of about $1,000 for each plaintiff whose identity was used to register new accounts in NCsoft’s popular games, Lineage and Lineage 2, according to media reports.

Most of the identify thefts took place over the past six months as underground gaming syndicates stole victims’ official Korean ID numbers in hacking attacks and used them to register hundreds of thousands of Lineage accounts.’

`A Danville high school student faces a felony charge of furnishing marijuana after allegedly feeding half a marijuana-laced cookie to a 4-year-old boy, a Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman said today.

The 17-year-old Monte Vista High School senior allegedly gave the piece of cookie to the boy during a daycare class at the high school on Feb. 21, spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Lee couldn’t release the suspect’s name because he is a juvenile. [..]

The maximum penalty for the charge of furnishing marijuana is four years in prison, Lee said.’

`Former British glam rocker Gary Glitter was jailed for three years for sex offences against two underaged girls by a Vietnamese court today.

The disgraced 1970s pop star stood accused of molesting two local girls aged 11 and 12 last year at his rented seaside bungalow in the southern resort town of Vung Tau, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.’

`An Italian parliamentary commission concluded “beyond any reasonable doubt” that the Soviet Union was behind the 1981 attempt to kill Pope John Paul II – a theory long alleged but never proved, according to a draft report made available Thursday.

The commission held that the pope was a danger to the Soviet bloc because of his support for the Solidarity labor movement in his native Poland. Solidarity was the first free trade union in communist eastern Europe.

“This commission believes, beyond any reasonable doubt, that the leaders of the Soviet Union took the initiative to eliminate the pope Karol Wojtyla,” said a draft of the commission’s report obtained by The Associated Press. Wojtyla was John Paul’s Polish name.’
