Nine dead after Finland school shooting

‘A teenage gunman who killed eight people in a high school rampage before turning the weapon on himself has died in hospital.

Seven students and the school principal died when 18-year-old student Pekka-Eric Auvinen opened fire at a school in southern Finland yesterday, hours after he posted a video on YouTube foreshadowing the massacre.

Witnesses said Auvinen walked through the corridors of Jokela High School firing into classroom after classroom with a .22-caliber handgun.

Police said Auvinen came from “a very normal family”. [..]

The YouTube video, set to a hard-driving song called Stray Bullet by the industrial rock band KMFDM, shows a still photo of a low building that appears to be Jokela High School.’

Jury Awards Father Nearly $11 Million in Funeral Protesters Case

‘The father of a fallen Marine was awarded nearly $11 million Wednesday in damages by a jury that found leaders of a fundamentalist church had invaded the family’s privacy and inflicted emotional distress when they picketed the Marine’s funeral.

The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned later in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress to the Marine’s father, Albert Snyder of York, Pa.

Snyder sued the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified monetary damages after members staged a demonstration at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq. [..]

Church members routinely picket funerals of military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, carrying signs such as “Thank God for dead soldiers” and “God hates fags.”‘

Copperfield Secret Document — How to Pick Up Chicks

‘TMZ has obtained portions of a secret document from David Copperfield’s shows, outlining in extreme detail how the magician’s assistants were supposed to rope in the women that David found attractive — and hold their boyfriends and husbands at bay.

The document, titled “Show Participation,” requires the people who work David’s shows to arm themselves with clipboards, a Polaroid camera, a digital camera, brochures of David’s islands in the Bahamas and “Blank photo(s) of David (if one of the girls is a scorpion).” “Scorpion” refers to women David brings onstage as part of his act.

The document describes how the assistants need to be heads-up for attractive women whom David can meet backstage after the performance. We’re told the plan is to keep boyfriends and husband in the arena, adding “from time to time, boyfriends and husbands will give us a hard time and refuse to stay. If that is the case, try your best to get them to stay and refer to the “What to Say” sheet for help.”‘

Man Busted for Hospital Necrophilia Act

‘A 24-year-old New York City man remains jailed after he was found allegedly having sex with a 92-year-old woman’s corpse inside the morgue of the hospital where he worked.

Anthony Merino, who works as a lab technician at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, N.J., was arrested Sunday after police responded to a call from a security guard at the hospital. The guard reported witnessing the lab technician sexually desecrating the woman’s dead body, according to police.

“This is a first,” Lt. Dean Kazinci, spokesman for the Teaneck, N.J., police, told ABC News. “When you think you’ve heard and seen it all, something like this happens.”‘

Big Brother horror show

‘The sight of a blind-drunk young woman being assaulted by a Big Brother housemate in what may be the most public rape ever has turned the stomachs of millions of television viewers.

[..] Bezuidenhout lay down next to the comatose young woman and penetrated her vagina with his fingers. He carried on despite the pleas of another female housemate for him stop. Under the law in South Africa – where, on average, a woman is sexually assaulted every 40 seconds – such an act constitutes rape.

Bezuidenhout, who is married, finally desisted and went off to sit by himself while drunkenly sniffing his fingers. At this point the producers of the show did intervene, sending paramedics into the house and cutting the live feed.

Bezuindehout, defending his sexual behaviour in a show that has featured copious nudity, recently told his housemates, “Well, this is Africa.”‘

Couple Abandoned Baby So They Could Party

‘A Glendale couple said they couldn’t afford a baby sitter, so they strapped their 14-month-old son in his stroller at home while the couple went out, police alleged.

Police said the couple admitted to leaving the boy home alone because they wanted to party.’

School Guards Break Child’s Arm And Arrest Her For Dropping Cake

‘School security guards in Palmdale, CA have been caught on camera assaulting a 16-year-old girl and breaking her arm after she spilled some cake during lunch and left some crumbs on the floor after cleaning it up.

The incident occurred last week at Knight High School in Palmdale and was caught on a cell phone camera by another pupil who was then also assaulted by the security guards. [..]

The girl, Pleajhai Mervin, told Fox News LA that she was bumped while queuing for lunch and dropped the cake. After being ordered to clean it up and then re-clean the spot three times, she attempted to leave the area out of embarrassment but was jumped on by security who forced her onto a table, breaking her wrist in the process.

Pleajhai also says that the security guard in the picture yelled “hold still nappy-head” at her, which at the time she did not know was a racist comment.’

Bob Collins: the ugly truth

‘The man is dead. He can’t fight back. Nor could the children he pinned down and molested. Bob Collins was not killed by bowel cancer, as has been widely reported. He had beaten it – though there were complications after he had surgery in Adelaide. Collins is being eulogised as a great fighter for the north. But he did untold damage along the way.

When he had his way with boys, he was consumed by a sickness. But there can be no excuses for Collins. On the times he spoke up for the rights of children, he was the worst kind of hypocrite. And it must be remembered he was smart as a whip, being a minister in both the Bob Hawke and Paul Keating federal cabinets.

Collins was the first former or serving federal minister to be charged with child-sex offences. Police believe his preferred prey was Aboriginal boys, although white boys were not excluded.’

Man Arrested For Allegedly Biting Off Ears, Finger

‘An Oklahoma man is facing charges for allegedly biting off and swallowing body parts from his ex-wife and her new husband, police said.

Kristy and Larry Nuckols got married on Monday. But two weekends ago, they were on the run from her ex-husband, Tom Ledgerwood, in the small town of Sasakwa.

Kristy Nuckols said the two of them were chased down a dirt road and their car got stuck.

That’s when Ledgerwood and some of his friends confronted them, she said.

“I had some mace and I hit him right in the eye and he dove in the car,” said Larry Nuckols.

Larry Nuckols said the two had started fighting and were rolling around inside the car when Ledgerwood began biting him.

“He told me, ‘You know what that was, that’s your ear,'” Nuckols said. “And he says, ‘I’m going to get the other one.'”‘

Special education teacher charged with aggravated battery

‘A special education teacher from Frost Junior High School in this northwestern Chicago suburb has been released on $500,000 bond on criminal charges stemming from alleged incidents involving three autistic boys who were his students.

Patrick E. McCarthy, 30, of Palatine, is charged with three counts of aggravated battery and one count of unlawful restraint and appeared Friday in Rolling Meadows bond court.

At the bond hearing before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Kay Hanlon, prosecutors said McCarthy appeared to lose control during the first month of school. They said he slammed one autistic boy into a brick wall and forced another to jump on a trampoline for more than half an hour while wearing a weighted vest. They also said he pushed one student into a metal filing cabinet and tied another one to a chair.’

Infant killed execution-style

Investigators initially believed the infant was killed accidentally by a stray bullet, but later determined he was killed execution-style.’

Man Accused Of Trying To Bury Horse Alive

‘Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Sanford Friday after a construction worker called to report that he was asked to use a tractor to dig a hole for a horse on a nearby property.

The construction worker said he refused to help the homeowner and called for help after he realized the owner wanted him to bury the horse alive.

“The owner or caregiver of the animal requested that he put dirt on top of the animal while it was still alive,” Seminole County sheriff’s Lt. Dennis Lemma said. “They saw a horse that was obviously sick, lying in a shallow grave in direct sunlight without food or water. It couldn’t get up. It is an alarming situation.”‘

Bush has bad day at Sydney Opera House

‘President Bush had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day at the Sydney Opera House.

He’d only reached the third sentence of Friday’s speech to business leaders, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, when he committed his first gaffe.

“Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit,” Bush said to Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Oops. That would be APEC, the annual meeting of leaders from 21 Pacific Rim nations, not OPEC, the cartel of 12 major oil producers. [..]

The president’s next goof went uncorrected — by him anyway. Talking about Howard’s visit to Iraq last year to thank his country’s soldiers serving there, Bush called them “Austrian troops.”‘

Blowtorch killer guilty

‘ A mother wept in court yesterday as she told a judge how she wakes each day to the horrific reality that her mentally handicapped daughter was tortured to death with a blowtorch.

Sitting in the prisoner’s box, Matthew Sitte, 25, of Midland, darted his eyes away from the mother as he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. [..]

Throughout the torture, Sitte would throw rubbing alcohol onto her body.

“The torching was persistent and prolonged,” said Williams. “It is horrific.”‘

Witnesses tell of fatal cleaver attack on boy, 6

‘The blood that stained the courtyard of the modest Thousand Oaks apartment complex had been washed away by Monday morning. In its place stood a makeshift memorial: A teddy bear and a few balloons. A Winnie-the-Pooh baby blanket. And a single rose for every year the young victim had lived.

Sev’n Molina, age 6, was hacked to death with a meat cleaver Sunday night, as his mother fought to save his life, terrified neighbors called 911 and the bravest among them tried to intervene in the grisly struggle. [..]

After the boy burst from the apartment into the communal courtyard, witnesses said, Sharp followed him, wielding the cleaver, and began hacking at the child’s head and shouting, “Die, die!”‘

Police officer accused of rape

‘A police officer was accused Wednesday of raping a 19-year-old woman at a deserted police substation, then showing up at a nearby home to handle the woman’s complaint after she called 911, prosecutors said.

A grand jury indicted Providence patrolman Marcus Huffman, 37, on a single count of first-degree sexual assault, said Michael Healey, a spokesman for Attorney General Patrick Lynch. [..]

Tourists Videotape Ocean City Drowning

‘A man who drowned trying to save his two sons trapped in a rip current could have been helped by tourists passing by from a parasailing trip, according to a captain who jumped in to save the boys.

Police say 38-year-old Renald Charles of Fruitland died Sunday while attempting to rescue his sons, 10 and 13. The boys and their father were spotted by Michael Andrew, owner of a 31-foot boat that was taking tourists to shore from a parasailing trip.

Andrew and one of his crew members jumped in, but the tourists videotaped the drowning instead of helping Charles, Andrew told The (Salisbury) Daily Times.
