Hotel in Central Baghdad Is Hit by 3 Explosions

`Three enormous explosions, at least one of which was a car bomb, struck this evening near two prominent hotels popular with foreign journalists and contractors, causing heavy structural damage to at least one of the buildings, shattering glass throughout the neighborhood and catapulting debris hundreds of yards away.’

Torture of Iraqis was for “stress relief”, say US soldiers

‘For the first time, American soldiers who personally tortured Iraqi prisoners have come forward to give testimony to human rights organisations about crimes they committed.

Three soldiers — a captain and two sergeants — from the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mercury near Fallujah in Iraq have told Human Rights Watch how prisoners were tortured both as a form of stress relief and as a way of breaking them for interrogation sessions. [..]

The 82nd Airborne soldiers at FOB Mercury earned the nickname “The Murderous Maniacs” from local Iraqis and took the moniker as a badge of honour.

The soldiers referred to their Iraqi captives as PUCs — persons under control — and used the expressions “fucking a PUC” and “smoking a PUC” to refer respectively to torture and forced physical exertion.’

The National Young Men’s Meat Grinder

`U.S. Military Personnel who died in German hospitals or en route to German hospitals have very rarely been counted. They total about 6,210 as of 1 January, 2005. The ongoing, underreporting of the dead in Iraq, is not accurate. The DoD is deliberately reducing the figures. A review of many foreign news sites show that actual deaths are far higher than the newly reduced ones. Iraqi civilian casualties are never reported but International Red Cross, Red Crescent and UN figures indicate that as of 1 January 2005, the numbers are just under 100,000.’

Galloway Senate testimony PDF goes AWOL

`The website for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs has removed testimony from UK MP George Galloway from its website.

All other witness testimonies for the hearings on the Oil for Food scandal are available on the Committee’s website in PDF form. But Galloway’s testimony is the only document not on the site. [..]

“I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him,” Galloway told the Committee.

“The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns.”

Press representatives for the Committee had no comment.’

I’m suprised they even put it up in the first place. The censors were obviously busy covering up something else at the time. Followup to the Galloway video I posted earlier.

Soldiers’ spoof Iraq video crashes computers

‘British soldiers serving in Iraq crashed defense ministry computers in London last week after officials downloaded a spoof video the troops had made of a chart-topping song.

The soldiers’ four-minute video take of the 1971 hit ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo’ had officers laughing out loud back at London headquarters as they e-mailed copies to each other. [..]

In the spoof video, a soldier looking like Kay marches through a British base in Iraq calling on fellow troopers to join him, including two dressed only in underwear, webbing and rifles.’

And you can see the video here.

Galloway Delivers Scathing Remarks

Some British MP at a senate enquiry in the US talking about Iraq. It’s very cool, he lays into them and pretty much tells them they’re all cunts.

Rumsfeld Debating Whether to Avoid Germany

‘Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Thursday he has not decided whether to attend an international security conference next week in Germany, where he might be subject to arrest on a war-crimes complaint. [..]

He conceded in response to questions at a press conference that one problem was the jurisdiction of a German court over a 160-page criminal complaint filed Nov. 30 with the federal prosecutor’s office in Germany accusing him of war crimes in connection with detainee abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.’

I hope he goes, and I hope the Germans put him in jail and get prostitutes to menstruate on him. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, afterall.
