‘A church organist was found dead at his Teesside home naked inside a giant plastic bag.
Ian Kemp, 48, from Stockton, was found alone in his house bound by his wrists and shins, an inquest heard.
A vacuum cleaner was also connected to the bag and it is believed Mr Kemp died after the machine had sucked all the air out of the bag.
The inquest heard there were no suspicious circumstances but Teesside Coroner Michael Sheffield said such incidents were sometimes connected to sexual gratification.’
‘The Internet’s blog sites have become overgrown with a variety of unpleasant content, including porn, offensive language, hate posting, and malware, a new threat analysis has suggested.
According to Scansafe’s Monthly Global Threat Report for March 2007, a surprisingly high percentage of the Internet’s blog sites — up to 80 percent — contain “offensive” content, with six percent hosting active malware.
To be added to the list of those deemed potentially offensive within a business context, a site merely had to contain a single post containing profanity, or worse.’

‘Several classrooms at Des Moines Area Community College were evacuated after college officials became nervous about a suspicious package.
College officials called police and postal inspectors after the box was delivered Thursday. What they found inside wasn’t a bomb it was a box containing 500 condoms.
The package was sent to a teacher of a human sexuality class, and was sent by a person who had been a previous speaker at the class, said Rob Denson, the college’s president.’

‘On the afternoon of July 8, 2006, four private security guards rolled out of Baghdad’s Green Zone in an armored SUV. The team leader, Jacob C. Washbourne, rode in the front passenger seat. He seemed in a good mood. His vacation started the next day.
“I want to kill somebody today,” Washbourne said, according to the three other men in the vehicle, who later recalled it as an offhand remark. Before the day was over, however, the guards had been involved in three shooting incidents. In one, Washbourne allegedly fired into the windshield of a taxi for amusement, according to interviews and statements from the three other guards.’
‘More than a fifth of the approximately 385 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been cleared for release but may have to wait months or years for their freedom because U.S. officials are finding it increasingly difficult to line up places to send them, according to Bush administration officials and defense lawyers.
Since February, the Pentagon has notified about 85 inmates or their attorneys that they are eligible to leave after being cleared by military review panels. But only a handful have gone home, including a Moroccan and an Afghan who were released Tuesday. Eighty-two remain at Guantanamo and face indefinite waits as U.S. officials struggle to figure out when and where to deport them, and under what conditions.
The delays illustrate how much harder it will be to empty the prison at Guantanamo than it was to fill it after it opened in January 2002 to detain fighters captured in Afghanistan and terrorism suspects captured overseas.’

‘Workers digging at the site of a future Wal-Mart store in suburban Mesa have unearthed the bones of a prehistoric camel that’s estimated to be about 10,000 years old.
Arizona State University geology museum curator Brad Archer hurried out to the site Friday when he got the news that the owner of a nursery was carefully excavating bones found at the bottom of a hole being dug for a new ornamental citrus tree.
“There’s no question that this is a camel; these creatures walked the land here until about 8,000 years ago, when the same event that wiped out a great deal of mammal life took place,” Archer told The Arizona Republic.’
‘Authorities tried Friday to sort out the strange case of a letter demanding that a St. Louis television station pay a woman $10,000 or she would kill her children and possibly her ex-boyfriend.
The 29-year-old woman whose name was signed to the note denied writing it, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said. She was arrested on unrelated traffic warrants and released on bond while state officials took temporary custody of her two children. The sheriff said a handwriting expert will be consulted.
“The whole thing is pretty weird,” Toelke said.’

‘US researchers have simulated half a virtual mouse brain on a supercomputer.
The scientists ran a “cortical simulator” that was as big and as complex as half of a mouse brain on the BlueGene L supercomputer.
In other smaller simulations the researchers say they have seen characteristics of thought patterns observed in real mouse brains.
Now the team is tuning the simulation to make it run faster and to make it more like a real mouse brain.’

‘A New Zealand mother says she was shocked and disgusted that a condom had been found in her seven-year-old daughter’s McDonald’s meal.
Louise Whitaker from Wellington said her daughter Maia was with her sister April and her grandparents at a store when the condom was found on Tuesday night.
She said her mother discovered the opened condom after her daughter ordered a Happy Meal.
“I was just disgusted after I heard about it,” Whitaker said.’
